Where Empowering Knows No Limits.

Hakizetu Organization

Hakizetu is a non-governmental organization dedicated to transforming the lives of young women and girls, particularly survivors of gender-based violence aged 14-39 in Tanzania. Our mission focuses on promoting livelihood development while advancing gender equality for the most vulnerable women and girls. We also work to enhance their economic rights and empower them to make informed decisions that are not driven by economic hardship.

Hakizetu is committed to empowering young women and girls by creating sustainable pathways to economic independence. Through targeted initiatives and strategic partnerships, we unlock opportunities, build essential skills, and provide the support needed for holistic empowerment. Our livelihood promotion efforts aim to improve well-being, economic prospects, and the overall quality of life for the next generation in Tanzania.

Personal Successful Story

“If you walk through the streets of Lake Zone, you’ll see many garment shops with the name ‘Her Story’ and the slogan, ‘We don’t sell products; we sell stories.’ This reflects our journey. Many of us arrived at Hakizetu with negative, and sad stories of giving up. But, Hakizetu helped us reshape our narratives and transform our histories into stories of triumph, allowing us to become champions for other girls who are struggling. Thanks to their support, we established our own businesses as a group through their support, and our journey doesn’t stop there, we continue to receive support from Hakizetu through. Business incubation. We plan to expand our shop and open branches in other areas. Thank you for helping girls keep dreaming. Now I can take care of myself and my family. We are champions of change,” said Marriness, a beneficiary of the Garment Making and Designing program.

“It was common for me to close my business due to a lack of capital. However, now I can easily access support from Hakizetu whenever I need to increase my capital. I can pay back the loans and make a good profit because the interest rates are low. Hakizetu provided me with health insurance as part of my support package, so I don’t have to spend my capital on healthcare expenses. I am truly grateful to Hakizetu and am very happy with the support I’ve received.” Neema from Mwanza Beneficiaries of small enterprises development

“Before joining the program, I struggled to make ends meet. Now, I’ve expanded my small hotel at Kona ya Kayenze and hired two employees, paying each of them 5,000 TZS daily,” said Eliza, a beneficiary of the Small Enterprises Development program.

“Upon my graduation from Vocational training program at Hakizetu, Hakizetu connected me with Kasano Industry. I started with a three-month field study, and after completing it, the management offered me a job. Being employed has brought joy to my family, as I can now support my parents and siblings. I can’t imagine my life without Hakizetu. In the future, I plan to establish my own business and continue the great work of Hakizetu by supporting other girls. I have no complaints about my job at Kasano; they pay us well,” said Belinda, a beneficiary of the Garment Making and Designing program.
